‘Ghost pirate’ Willy Wilcox caught on tape

This haunting picture appears to show the moment a legendary pirate ghost was captured on camera for the first time.

British businessman John Dyer was holidaying in Polperro, Cornwall, when he started snapping away at the darkened caves.

It was only when he returned home that he spotted a ghostly figure in the background, which he believes is a notorious pirate called Willy Wilcox.

If you stand back from the screen, two hands are visible along with a head and a distinctive eye-patch.

Legend has it, the 18th Century smuggler was on the run and was last spotted hiding in the area’s underground caves.

He was never seen again and stories suggest he became trapped by a rising tide and his spirit now haunts the area.
